The Question: Why Can’t I See God?
The core idea in this clip hinges on a simple but powerful shift:
Maybe the reason you don’t see the ocean… isn’t because it’s far away—but because it’s too close.
We’re used to thinking that if something is real, we should be able to point to it. See it. Step back from it and observe it. That works for objects—things within the world.
But what if we’re talking about something that isn’t in the world, but is the very basis of the world itself?
The Mistake: Treating God Like an Object
If God is understood as just another being—somewhere “out there”—then the question “Why can’t I see Him?” makes sense.
But if God is the underlying reality that everything exists within, then that question starts to fall apart.
Because you can’t step outside of reality to examine it.
The Ocean Mashal: Not Hidden—Just Everywhere
That’s what the ocean mashal is getting at.
A fish can spend its whole life asking, “Where is the ocean?” not because the ocean is hidden—but because it’s the environment of everything it experiences.
Every movement, every moment, is already within it.
So too here: if God is not something separate from existence, but the very ground of it, then you wouldn’t expect to “find” Him the way you find other things.
You’re already within that reality.
Are We “Nothing”? Understanding the Drop
The next part of the mashal—“we’re drops in the ocean”—can sound uncomfortable at first. It feels like it’s saying we don’t matter.
But that’s not what it means.
A drop isn’t meaningless—it’s an expression of the ocean. It carries the same essence, just in a specific form. Its individuality isn’t erased; it’s defined by its connection.
From Separation to Belonging
This reframes how we think about ourselves.
We’re not disconnected beings trying to reach something beyond us. We’re already rooted in something deeper. And when a person becomes aware of that, it doesn’t feel like losing yourself—it feels like belonging.
That’s why the line in the clip rings true:
“There’s no greater feeling than feeling part of the greater.”
Because at that point, connection isn’t something you create—it’s something you uncover.
The Real Answer
It’s not that you don’t see God.
It’s that you’ve been trying to look at Him… instead of realizing you’re already within Him.
